Family owned businesses
SENTINA CONSTRUCTION AND SUPPLYSentina Construction and Supply (SCS) began when Engr. Maxnell Sentinahad the foresight to put up his own construction business. Equipped with a vision, dedication to profession and a BS Civil Engineering degree from Central Philippine University, he set out to explore his field and improve his financial and social status through this venture.
It all started in 1993 with a capital of PhP200,000 to purchase one concrete hollow blocks machine and one delivery truck for the sand and gravel business. Engr. Maxnell Sentina and his wife Anna Marie Belo-Sentina put up a small construction store in Sibalom, Antique, with one of their godfathers as the supplier of construction materials and hardware on a term of 30 to 60 days. |
In 1999, a bigger SCS was put up in General Luna Street, Sibalom, Antique. This new store was connected to the smaller one, the location of which is adjacent to the Sibalom public market. While running the business, Engr. Sentina participated in public biddings and worked as a licensed contractor/engineer in the various projects he was involved in, including construction of farm-to-market roads, bridges and school buildings.
The store currently sells lumber, hardware, hollow blocks, plywood, steel bars, electrical supplies, sand and gravel, among other construction materials. SCS is a dealer of Lafarge cement, and also offers equipment rental.

educational institutions
ADVANCE CENTRAL COLLEGE
The renowned school began as a local internet provider and internet cafe named “Antique Computer Center” in San Jose, Antique in 1999. Having discovered that internet providing attracts a fair amount of people in the town, the internet café further extended its services as a desktop publishing office accepting encoding services and printing jobs for certificates, programs, and even identification cards for schools who were in need of them. It further expanded its limits through venturing in the field of education as a children’s computer activity center offering tutorials in subjects Math, English and Science. Further exploring our technology-driven world with the desire to make Computer Education more accessible and affordable, computer tutorial lessons were offered to both college students and professionals.
In 2001, Advance Central College was established as a formal educational institution. Before the year ended, the Securities and Exchange Commission issued a registration certificate bearing the name “Advance Central College, Inc.” |
In 2009, ACC opened its doors to 1,500 scholars of the competency-based programs under the Pangulong Gloria Scholarship (PGS) Fund. Both young Antiqueños and professionals availed of the free trainings in bartending, food and beverage servicing, computer hardware servicing, and commercial cooking.
Mr. Rani Rodriguez, founder and owner of ACC, firmly believes that the child should discover himself first before discovering what is outside for them to assess their strengths and weaknesses so they can pave their paths to a brighter future. Being the environmentalist that he is, Rodriguez replaced books with tablets to save paper (therefore decreasing the cost of learning materials) and to capture the interest of students who belong to the information age. The school’s building also incorporated solar panels into its roofs to decrease cost in electricity and to conserve power.
Today, ACC is steered by its mission of providing accessible, affordable, and high-quality education and produce graduates who are globally-compatible. All of its sources, programs, projects, and activities are and will continuously be explored and maximized to move the institution to the realization of its dream of bringing the world to Antique and the Antiqueños to the world.

ANTIQUE CHRISTIAN CENTER
It is commonly said that great things had their beginnings in dream.
The Antique Christian Center Pre-School Center came out of the dream of Miss Febe T. Buenaventura (later Mrs Febe B. Dagohoy) . It was dream and ardent desire that when she finished her course that when she finished her course in Bachelor in Science in Religious Education, Major in Kindergarten at Central Philippine University in Jaro, Iloilo, Philippines she would start a Kindergarten class. The once non-existent Kindergarten class had started in June, 1956 with 15 children enrolled. |
From its modest start, the Antique Christians Center has shown remarkable growth.
Since the time of its inception, the enrollment in the pre-school class increased year by year having earned the trust of parents and advertised by the word of mouth from those who have witness what certain values their children have learned.
Through the years, Antique Christian Center has come to attain and preserve its high quality education and core values, such as the love of god and an optimistic outlook on life. Though it had not always been a bed of roses, the institution which is rather referred to as a missionary work, ACC’s survival(?) in the midst of problems and fall outs is accredited to its commitment, hardwork and of course, God’s sustaining grace and guidance.
2006, ACC welcomed its doors to the first wave of first graders as they have Primary Education through the request of parents.
From a dream rose an institution- the fulfilment of one but the start of many.

BUSINESSES SPUN FROM PASSION
BUDS AND BLOOMS
A small scale business that was short-lived back in 2003 due to lack of human resources, Buds and Blooms made its comeback into the floral market in 2013 when Mr. Celestino Dalumpines IV had enough people to help run his flower shop, a craft to let him exercise his fondness for the art of arranging flowers. Aside from the lack of human resources, Mr. Dalumpines also faced financial problems and a minimal flow of customers; problems which are common in newly established businesses. Despite these setbacks, the flower shop prevailed and continues to learn and to innovate in ways to satisfy the customers’ needs. |
The flower shop boasts of high quality products at lower prices than those of its competitors and their employees who value courtesy, honesty, and equality when dealing with clients. One can relieve the ennui when waiting for your orders by the different forms of entertainment like watching TV and observing the variety of pets (such as love birds, fish, and etc.) that they have.

2Ms CAKE HAUZ
A humble family business that first started way back in 1999, Cake Hauz has now found its name in the entrepreneurial world.
After moving from the province of Iloilo, Mrs. Teresita Villavert followed her drive in pastry baking and decorating and started a home business up to 2004. They only had a few competitors, thus they were only able to produce a few number of pastries and cakes. But in January of 2014, the family finally decided to expand and locate a larger space for their business. Thus they settled in a modest lot located at Villavert Jimenez St. San Jose, Antique. But in the span of 10 years, they have encountered several problems such as competition. Though it is natural in a business to have several other establishments provide the same service, Cake Hauz struggled in producing high quality products without interference from their competitors. |
Quality is the primary aspect that sets Cake Hauz apart from the competition. The workers which only consist of the four family members, work hard to produce high quality products with affordable prices; prices which are cheaper than those of other establishments. They also make sure to value honesty towards their customers.
In the future, once 2Ms Cake Hauz improves its production and quality, jobs will be provided to high school and college students. These opportunities will help them earn money to aid them in their studies. Mr. and Mrs. Villavert, though not planning on establishing more branches in San Jose, plan on opening a catering business so that their small pastry shop will become an all-in-one trade.

V-BRENTS ENTERPRISE
Before engaging in a school supply store, Mr. Brent Sermeno started a small business with a capital of Php 30,000. The “V Brent’s Enterprise”, named after him and his wife Venus, prioritized photo copying, printing and book binding; but as the demands of the customers increased, they decided to start selling a few school supplies like folders, fasteners, writing materials, bond papers and the like. Never did they imagine that these few school supplies would start their booming business that’s now on its 7th year.
Their first branch started in front of Antique National School, T.A. Fornier St. San Jose, Antique. One problem that they have faced though was the cramped space. The location had only a small space to store a lot of supplies, so they decided to build a bigger branch located a few meters from their first branch.
Competition, according to Mr. Sermeno, is normal in the business world, so it didn’t worry them much. As an owner, he thinks he should be more hands-on in serving their customers to ensure that they are properly attended to. Sermeno also believes that improving their decision-making skills is very important in securing the future of their business.
